The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident in Merced County on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred on Highway 59 and Rahilly Road just after 10:45 a.m.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in the collision. A box truck was headed north on the highway at the same time as an SUV that was headed south. The driver of the SUV lost control and drove into the oncoming lanes and the path of the truck. This caused the two vehicles to crash into each other.
The driver of the SUV was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time. The officials have not disclosed any information regarding the state of the truck driver.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. There are no other details available.
