The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident in Livermore on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 near Greenville Road at around 6:45 a.m.
According to the officials, a 2007 Toyota Corolla was headed east when it drifted to the right before crashing into the yellow barrels on the right shoulder. The driver had stepped out of the vehicle to assess the damage to his car.
It was at this time that a Freightliner semi-truck crashed into the Toyota. The force of the impact caused both the truck and the Toyota to crash into the driver.
The driver incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed. However, the officials have reported that the victim was a 51-year-old man from Tracy.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated.
