A tragedy struck on the Southwest Freeway early Friday morning when a fatal collision occurred involving an 18-wheeler. Houston police responded to the scene following a call around 5 a.m., indicating a crash involving the large truck.
According to authorities, the 18-wheeler was traveling at approximately 45 mph in the southbound lanes when a Nissan, driven by an individual described as speeding and driving erratically, collided with the rear of the semi’s trailer, igniting a fiery blaze.
Regrettably, the Nissan driver succumbed to the multi-vehicle accident, with their identity yet to be disclosed. Details regarding potential injuries sustained by the 18-wheeler driver were not immediately provided.
The fatal crash led to the closure of main lanes at W. Bellfort for several hours, though the freeway has since reopened, leaving investigators to unravel the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident.
