A fatal crash occurred on southbound Interstate 680 in Concord Friday night, resulting in one fatality, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The exact timing of the multi-vehicle accident remains unclear, but it was reported at 9:52 p.m. near Concord Avenue.
According to investigators, the incident began when an SUV traveling southbound struck a concrete center divide and remained in a traffic lane. Subsequently, a truck was unable to avoid the SUV, leading to a collision. A third car was also involved, although the details of its role were not specified.
Sadly, the SUV’s driver was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV’s passenger, the truck driver, and the third car’s driver escaped the incident without reported injuries.
