The Cathedral City Police Department reported a multi-vehicle accident on Monday. The accident occurred at Date Palm Drive, south of Varner Road, at around 11:21 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the officials, three vehicles were involved in a collision. A vehicle was headed north on the road when it made an unsafe turn into the southbound lanes. The vehicle then crashed into two other vehicles.
The driver of one of the two vehicles was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time. The officials have not reported if there were others injured.
The first vehicle initially fled the scene but was later caught and arrested. The officials confirmed that the arrested driver was driving under the influence at the time of the fatal crash. There are no other details available at this time.
