A devastating multi-vehicle crash on the 5 Freeway through Boyle Heights early Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality and the closure of several lanes. The incident, reported around 2:45 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway just north of Indiana Street, involved a car engulfed in flames, a big rig, and another vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Tragically, an unidentified individual inside the burning car was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by CHP Officer Gomez. Another person involved in the multi-vehicle accident sustained minor injuries and was subsequently released from a local hospital.
Investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing, but initial assessments suggest a solo vehicle collision with the center divider triggered the sequence of events. The collision ultimately involved multiple vehicles, including a big rig, and debris from the crash affected a car traveling on the northbound side of the freeway.
