A tragic collision occurred around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the westbound HOV lane of I-10 between Fairway Drive and Avondale Boulevard. The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that three vehicles were involved in the fatal crash, with one rolling onto its side.
Emergency responders extricated an individual from the overturned vehicle who was critically injured. The person succumbed to their injuries later at the hospital and was pronounced dead.
The extent of injuries for others involved remains unclear at this time. The aftermath of the multi-vehicle accident led to the closure of all but two westbound lanes as of 1 p.m., causing traffic disruptions.
Eastbound traffic remains unaffected. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
