In the tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred in Ventura on Friday night, one person died. The individual was reportedly sitting on the railroad tracks when they were struck by an Amtrak train.
The person was fatally injured and was pronounced dead. The identity of the man has not been disclosed at this time.
The incident was reported to the Ventura Police Department shortly before 9:30 p.m. It is being investigated by railroad authorities. The fatal crash happened along a stretch of tracks near Olivas Park Drive, between orchards and commercial buildings.
The man had been on the tracks below an elevated bridge. It remains unclear whether the act was intentional or possibly influenced by substances. The manner and cause of death will be determined by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
