The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Friday, in East County. The accident occurred on Highway S2, about 7 miles south of State Route 78 in Shelter Valley.
According to the officials, a driver has been driving down the highway in a Chevrolet pickup when he lost control of the vehicle. This caused the truck to overturn and come to rest on its roof.
The man who was the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was airlifted to an Imperial County hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. Witnesses described both of them as being elderly. Their identities are not yet known at this time.
The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
