Tragedy struck Richmond on Monday afternoon as a man lost his life in a fatal crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The motor vehicle accident occurred around 3 p.m. when the man, driving east on Interstate Highway 80, lost control of his vehicle.

His vehicle veered off the roadway, flipped over, and landed on the on-ramp to El Portal Drive after colliding with the embankment. Though the collision had minimal impact on traffic along I-80, the on-ramp was closed for approximately an hour to facilitate the response of first responders and investigators.

The CHP continues to investigate the crash, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
