A fatal crash in Maricopa on Sunday afternoon left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries. The motor vehicle accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Taft Avenue and McDavid Road, west of Highway 347.
Maricopa Police Department reported that the driver was believed to be speeding west on McDavid Road when he failed to make a left turn east of Taft Avenue, crossing eastbound lanes and crashing into a tree. He was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed. It’s unclear if impairment was a factor. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office’s Vehicular Crime Unit is aiding in the investigation. The intersection will remain closed for several hours. No estimated reopening time is available.
