A tragedy struck Maricopa on Sunday afternoon as one person lost their life and another fought for survival following a single-vehicle fatal crash near Taft Avenue and McDavid Road. The Maricopa Police and Fire/Medical departments responded to the scene just west of Highway 347 around 2:30 p.m.
According to authorities, the passenger succumbed to their injuries at the crash site, while the driver was rushed to a Valley hospital with life-threatening injuries. Initial investigations suggest the driver was speeding west on McDavid Road and failed to negotiate a left turn east of Taft Avenue, veering across eastbound lanes and colliding with a tree.
It remains unclear if impairment contributed to the motor vehicle accident. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office’s Vehicular Crime Unit is aiding in the ongoing investigation, with the intersection of Taft Avenue and McDavid Road slated for closure as authorities probe the fatal crash.
