The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle accident in Jacksonville on Saturday. The accident occurred four miles north of Jacksonville and the time of the accident is not yet known.
According to the officials, a man was headed north on Highway 69 when he was hit by a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. Apparently, the driver of the Tahoe was speeding.
The victim was fatally injured and pronounced dead. The identity of the victim was later determined to be Derrick Steel. The driver of the Tahoe was not injured in the accident.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. There are no other details available at this time.
