1 Person Killed In A Motor Vehicle Accident In Escondido (Escondido, CA)

The Escondido Police Department reported a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Auto Park Way at around 10:28 p.m. on Monday.

According to the officials, a lance corporal from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and two other women were found shoplifting from the store and attempted to flee. In the attempt, the driver lost control and crashed into a retaining wall. 

Both female passengers were ejected. One was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the victim is not yet known. The other woman, who underwent surgery, indicated that she had asked the driver to stop, but he refused, causing the fatal crash

The driver, identified as 21-year-old John Eugene Brand, was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter and kidnapping. The stolen Marine Corps vehicle contained recovered stolen merchandise.
