A tragedy struck on Friday night as a fatal crash claimed one life. It led to the closure of southbound Interstate Highway 680 near Pleasant Hill Shopping Centre for approximately two hours, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The motor vehicle accident unfolded just north of Concord Avenue around 9:50 p.m., prompting an immediate response from emergency services. At least one person was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.
The CHP diligently worked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The highway closure caused disruptions, but as of shortly before midnight, the southbound lanes of Interstate Highway 680 were reopened.
