A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred as a man was fatally struck by a northbound North County Transit District Coaster train, as confirmed by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday.
The collision took place at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday near the Coast Highway Bridge, north of the Carlsbad Village Coaster Station, as reported by SDCSD Sgt. Jason King. Despite efforts by Carlsbad police and fire teams, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Carlsbad police have called upon the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Pending notification of the victim’s family, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the man’s identity and the cause of his tragic fatal crash.
