The California Highway Patrol reported a one-vehicle collision on Friday. The accident occurred on the westbound lanes of Interstate 80, near the on-ramp for State Route 49.
According to the officials, a Peterbilt semi-truck had driven through the guard rail and slid down the embankment before crashing into a tree.
The driver was found unresponsive in his seat. Despite performing life-saving measures, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the man had not been disclosed at this time.
The officials have reported that they do not suspect drugs or alcohol to have played a role in the accident. The fatal accident is still being investigated. There are no other details available at this time.
