In a tragic hit-and-run accident on Sunday, a pedestrian lost their life on Highway 99 in Merced County.
Around 6:23 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officers responded to a call about a pedestrian struck by multiple vehicles on the highway south of Plainsburg Road.
The man, initially involved in a collision with a big rig, ran across lanes into oncoming traffic, where he was hit by several vehicles. Despite efforts, the man was fatally injured and was pronounced dead in the fatal crash. The identity of the man has not been disclosed at this time.
While some parties cooperated, two vehicles involved in the incident fled, described as a blue Kia sedan and an unknown-color Hyundai with front-end damage, both last seen heading south on Highway 99.
