A hit-and-run accident turned fatal on Sunday night as a 35-year-old pedestrian, identified only as a Fontana man, was struck and killed by a Toyota Camry hybrid. The accident occurred on the Main Street entrance to southbound Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore.
The initial driver fled the scene, leaving the victim in an unlit portion of the freeway on-ramp. Shortly afterwards, a 2017 Ford Explorer, driven by a 34-year-old Lake Elsinore resident, unknowingly ran over the pedestrian. The second driver, realizing what happened, pulled over and called 911.
Unfortunately, paramedics said that the victim was fatally injured and was pronounced dead in the fatal crash. The hit-and-run driver remains at large.
