The Hawthorne Police Department reported a hit-and-run accident on Friday. The accident occurred at the intersection of Rosecrans and Cerise Avenues at around 8:45 p.m.
According to the officials, a bicyclist was hit by a black newer-model Nissan SUV that was heading west on Rosecrans Avenue.
The bicyclist was severely injured. Despite personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department performing lifesaving measures, the victim succumbed to their injuries and died. The identity of the victim is not yet known at this time.
The vehicle involved fled the scene before the police could arrive. The officials were tipped off to the location of the vehicle being in an underground parking lot and they confirmed that it was the vehicle. They have not disclosed any information regarding the driver involved and their arrest.
The fatal accident is still being investigated at this time.
