The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office reported a hit-and-run accident in Anahuac on February 5. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Monday on the roadside of State Highway 61 near Barrow-White Road.
According to the authorities, the driver of a pickup truck fled the scene after striking two women who were exercising along a road. One woman was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other had to be airlifted to the hospital via Life Flight. The identity of the victim remains undisclosed.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated by the authorities. According to deputies, the women were hit by a 2019 to 2024 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra, either white or silver. The vehicle was traveling southbound on SH 61.
