According to the Spokane Valley Police Department, a fatal crash was reported in the city.
Officials confirmed that one person died due to the pedestrian accident on Saturday at about 8 PM.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred east on Sprague Avenue between Bannen and Best Roads. The incident was reported to the dispatcher when a caller informed them that a man in a wheelchair had made an attempt to cross a busy roadway in darkness and was subsequently struck by a vehicle.
Despite the diligent medical efforts, tragically, the man lost his life at the scene.
Technicians from the Spokane Valley Traffic Unit were tasked with collecting evidence and documenting the scene.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Impairment and speed are not believed to be a factor in the incident.
