According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Sunday in Santa Rosa. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred on the southbound lanes of US-101, south of West Sierra Avenue. A Honda Civic drove off the roadway and struck a freeway sign. Subsequently, the vehicle hit a large redwood tree before coming to a stop.
The driver was extracted from the vehicle and transported to the hospital sustaining injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not been disclosed at this time.
Other information pertaining to the accident is yet to be determined. The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP.
