The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Thursday at midnight. The accident happened in Mountain View at around 1:30 a.m. The collision involved a pedestrian.
An individual was struck by a southbound train at the Rengstorff Avenue grade crossing. The events leading up to this collision are not yet known at this time.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The name and identity of the victim have not been made public yet.
At the time of the collision, there were fourteen passengers riding the train. According to Caltrain, there were no cited passenger injuries.
Following the incident, the train’s service was suspended for more than two hours. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office, which arrived at the scene at 3:24 a.m., is looking into the fatal crash.
