The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon. At East Meadow Drive in Palo Alto, southbound train #508 ran over a pedestrian at around 12:10 p.m.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The name and identity of the victim have not been made public yet. What caused the victim to have been on the tracks at the time of the accident is not yet known.
The number of people riding the train was roughly 68. There were no other reported injuries. Around 1:30 p.m., the passengers were switched to another train to travel south.
According to Caltrain officials, the northbound and southbound tracks were both cleared for the maximum speed permitted by 3:31 p.m. No other details regarding the fatal crash are available currently.
