According to the Irvine Police Department, a fatal crash was reported on Saturday morning in Irvine. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred on Harvard Avenue, near University Drive. A black Mercedes S550 sedan slammed into a nearby tree. The vehicle then burst into flames.
While the fire was put out, the driver of the vehicle was found to be fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. Other insights into the collision including the identity of the deceased driver are yet to be released.
The cause of the collision has not been determined. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The crash continues to be investigated by the IPD.
