According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Tuesday morning in Berkeley. Officials confirmed that one person died due to the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities stated that the collision occurred near Gilman Street. A man was standing on the tracks when he was struck by Amtrak Capitol Corridor Train 529. The events leading up to the man’s presence on the tracks are not clear at this time.
The man was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. Insights about the identity of the deceased person remain unknown.
Other information regarding the collision is pending release. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP.
