The Lufkin Police Department reported a fatal bicycle crash on Sunday. The accident occurred in the 900 block of Abney Avenue at around 6:15 a.m.
According to the officials, a bicycle was headed west when it was hit by a black SUV. The SUV had been travelling at a high speed and had crossed three lanes before crashing into the bicycle.
The bicyclist had incurred critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of the family.
The SUV fled the scene before the police could arrive. The officials have asked if any had witnessed the fatal accident or had seen the suspect vehicle to please come forward and report it.
