A tragic incident unfolded as a bicyclist riding a white e-bike was fatally struck by two vehicles, as confirmed by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department on Friday. The bicycle accident occurred at 10:28 p.m.
Thursday on South Melrose Drive at the intersection with Buena Vista Drive, according to SDCSD Sgt. Eric Cottrell. The first motorist involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation after bumping into the bicyclist.
However, a second motorist, believed to be driving a white crossover or SUV, struck the bicyclist and fled the scene. Despite efforts by first responders, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal crash. The sheriff’s department is appealing to the public for assistance in locating the vehicle that left the scene.
