The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Wednesday evening. The crash happened on Gordon Highway and Thomas Lane around 5:07 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, they attempted to stop a blue Nissan Rouge driver for a traffic violation. The driver struck two different vehicles at different locations.
One of the vehicle drivers, 33-year-old Ashley Irvin, was taken to the Augusta University Medical Center for treatment. He was pronounced dead later. An autopsy has been scheduled.
The other vehicle that was hit was identified as Nissan. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The hit-and-run crash is being investigated.
