1 person killed, another in critical condition after a truck strikes a power pole in Mercer Island (Mercer Island, WA)

On Wednesday night, one person was killed while another suffered critical injuries after a truck hit a power pole in Mercer Island.

As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle crash took place in the 7000 block of North Mercer Way. The early reports showed that a truck slammed into a power pole for undetermined reasons. There was a man and a woman in the truck.

One person suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Another person was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries. Puget Sound Energy was called at the scene to disconnect electricity lines to allow for a safe response.

Eyewitnesses informed the officers that they heard what sounded like gunshots at the time of the collision. Officials said that a gun was found in the truck. There was no threat to the public. 48 homes reportedly lost power due to the accident. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
