The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a multi-vehicle accident on Wednesday in Nacogdoches County. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 59, about 3 miles south of Garrison at around 10:10 p.m.
According to the officials, a 2018 Dodge SUV was headed north when it drove over into the southbound lanes. This caused it to go into the path of a 2006 Peterbilt truck tractor and the two vehicles crashed head-on. The Peterbilt then caught on fire.
The driver of the Peterbilt was taken to Nacogdoches Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Dodge was taken to a Tyler hospital. A passenger present in the Dodge at the time of the accident was thrown from the vehicle and incurred fatal injuries. They were pronounced dead.
The identity of the deceased victim is not yet known at this time. The fatal crash is still being investigated.
