On Friday afternoon, one person died following a two-vehicle accident on I-40.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place on Interstate 40 near Strawberry Plains Pike at about 1:30 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that two SUV’s heading westbound collided with each other for undetermined reasons. Due to the impact of the collision, one SUV rolled over the guardrail, ejecting the driver.
On arrival, medical personnel rushed that person to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where the victim was later declared dead. Interstate 40 W was shut down as crews worked at the scene. No additional information has been provided.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
