On Monday, one person was killed following a two-vehicle accident in Toppenish.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at about 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Fort Road and Becker Road in Toppenish. The preliminary investigation showed that a driver who was under the influence ran a stop sign and crashed into another car.
According to the officials, the Mustang failed to stop at the intersection while going north on Becker Road and got struck by another car going west on Becker Road. The Mustang had three occupants inside, all females enrolled in the Yakima Nation. The passenger in the front seat succumbed to her injuries after the crash.
The passenger in the rear seat of the car and the 36-year-old driver were transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. The Galant had four people inside, including a 30-year-old man from Toppenish and three children. The driver had a broken leg due to the accident and is recovering at the hospital. The three children incurred only minimal injuries. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
