On Tuesday afternoon, one person suffered injuries following a traffic accident near Expressway Park in Baton Rouge.
As per the initial information, the single-vehicle crash took place on I-110 South between 4 and 4:30 p.m. The early reports showed that the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle as a result of which the vehicle drove over the railing on I-110 South.
The driver was trying to merge onto Interstate 10 when they lost control. The vehicle was found crushed near the park, under the I-10/I-110 interchange. On arrival, emergency responders cut the vehicle to extricate the driver from the mangled wreckage.
The victim was alert and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The Baton Rouge Fire Department used equipment similar to the Jaws of Life to rescue the driver. Extrication took approximately 20 minutes. No further details were provided.
The crash remains under investigation.
