1 person hospitalized after a two-vehicle wreck near Houston area (Montgomery County, TX)

On Monday, one person was hurt following a semi-truck crash near Houston area.

As per the initial information, the two-vehicle wreck took place on Interstate 45 near the Montgomery and Walker County line shortly before 11 p.m. The preliminary reports showed that the big rig carrying pineapple had a tire blowout. The truck started swaying, which separated the truck from the trailer.

After that, the trailer struck the divider on the freeway and flipped over into the southbound lanes of I-45. A second 18-wheeler going for Houston slammed into the separated trailer, ripping it open and sending the fruit and debris flying. Approximately 40,000 pounds of pineapple spilled across the southbound lanes of I-45.

The second big rig had significant damage, causing the engine oil also spilling on the freeway. The driver of the second big rig was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe and is listed in stable condition. All lanes of traffic were initially closed as crews worked at the scene, but later reopened. No other details are available.

The crash remains under investigation.
