The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Tuesday in Yelm. The collision involved two vehicles. The collision happened at milepost 11 of State Route 510 around 9 p.m.
The driver of a Mazda sedan crossed the center line and hit a Toyota sedan traveling east. Both cars came to rest in ditches on either side of the street.
The Mazda driver, a 36-year-old Yelm man who was not wearing a seatbelt, passed away at the scene. He totaled his car. According to the memo, the Toyota sedan’s 30-year-old Yelm driver was wearing a seatbelt and was unharmed.
It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were used, according to a State Patrol memo. Following the fatal collision, the highway was closed in both directions for two hours and 45 minutes by troopers and state Department of Transportation officials.
