1 person died following an auto-pedestrian collision on Highway 101 (San Rafael, CA)

One person was killed after being struck by a transit van Monday morning on Highway 101.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision was reported at around 3:43 a.m. in the area of southbound 101, just north of Freitas Parkway. The preliminary reports showed that the driver of a 2004 transit van was traveling in the left lane, noticed a person in the lane, but failed to swerve or stop the vehicle in time and ended up hitting the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Their identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. Three lanes of southbound 101 were shut down during the investigation and then re-opened. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
