1 person dead after a hit-and-run crash on Hwy. 124 in Jefferson County (Hamshire, TX)

On Wednesday night, one person was killed and another suffered injuries following a two-vehicle accident in Jefferson County.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place at the intersection of Craigen Road and Highway 124 at about 5:15 p.m. That is just northeast of Hamshire. The early reports indicated that a 2010 Toyota SUV was heading northeast behind a 1994 Mack dump truck on the highway. At some point of time, the driver of the Toyota SUV rear-ended the dump truck for undetermined reasons.

The driver of the dump truck drove away from the scene after the collision but was later found uninjured by the officers. On arrival, medics rushed the driver of the Toyota SUV to St. Elizabeth Hospital, whereas the passenger was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The identities of the victims involved in the accident have not been released at this time. No other details were provided.

An investigation is continuing.
