1 person dead, 5 injured after a two-vehicle collision on I-45 in Walker County (New Waverly, TX)

On Saturday evening, one person was killed while five others suffered injuries following a traffic collision in Walker County.

As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place moments after 8 PM on I-45 southbound at FM 1375. The preliminary investigation indicated that a truck hauling a trailer came over the hill and slammed into a passenger car with 4 adults and 2 children inside. 911 callers reported that the occupants were pinned and sustained critical injuries.  The NWFD crew on duty at the New Waverly station quickly responded to the scene.

On arrival, they found that both vehicles were heavily damaged and multiple people were critically injured. Several medical helicopters were requested to land on the freeway. An additional NWFD crew from the station on Hwy 75 arrived and started rescuing the pinned victims from the car, including three adults who went into cardiac arrest on the scene. CPR was performed on all three while one adult was finally declared dead.

The other two were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. The remaining adult and both children were each airlifted by medical helicopters with serious injuries. An engine company from the Huntsville Fire Department coordinated the landing zone for three helicopters. Multiple agencies responded to the scene. No other details are made available.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
