One person was killed and four others received injuries following a multi-vehicle accident on N. Timberland Drive in Lufkin.
The three-vehicle wreck took place when a red Ford Mustang traveling north on Timberland Drive crossed four lanes of traffic and was broadsided by a southbound pickup. At that point of time, another truck that was also heading south on Timberland Drive rear-ended the one that hit the Mustang.
Five people were rushed to local hospitals, including the male driver of the Mustang. The reports revealed that the driver of the Mustang was awaiting medical transport to an out-of-town hospital when he succumbed to his injuries in the emergency room. A juvenile in the pickup that hit the Mustang was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital.
The 2000 block of N. Timberland Drive was shut down for a while Sunday afternoon while crews worked at the scene. During that time, southbound traffic in that portion of Timberland Drive was redirected to Forest Park Boulevard. The 2000 block of N. Timberland Drive was later opened again to traffic. The initial accident investigation has been completed, and traffic is now flowing normally through the area.
The wreck remains under investigation.
