One person was killed while four others suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle accident on SR 240.
As per the initial information, the fatal three-vehicle pile-up took place on State Route 24o, 3 miles west of Richland. The early reports showed that a 2014 Ford F150 had two passengers and a driver, and was traveling east on SR 240. The two other cars, a 2013 Ford Focus and a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, were going west on SR 240.
Both the drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles. The Ford F150 reportedly went over the centerline and crashed into both the vehicles. On arrival, emergency crews rushed the driver of F150 to a nearby hospital. There were two passengers in the vehicle at that time.
One of them succumbed to their injuries at the scene, whereas the other was taken to a local hospital. The drivers of the cars were also taken to nearby hospitals. Officials said that drugs and alcohol played a factor in the wreck. Charges are pending against the driver of F150. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
