On Saturday night, one person was killed while two others suffered injuries following a single-vehicle accident in Downey.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place on the southbound 5 freeway at about 10:50 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that a gray Nissan Altima was going along the southbound 5 freeway and was merging onto the southbound 605 freeway.
For unknown reasons, the car went around 200 yards down an embankment from the Santa Ana freeway. On arrival, medical personnel rushed three people to a nearby trauma center where one of the passengers later died of their injuries. The Downey Unified School District confirmed that the victim who died was a student at Warren High School.
The extent of injuries sustained by the other two patients is unclear at this time. Initially, when responders arrived to the crash scene they reported that two victims had been ejected from the car and another was pinned inside the wreckage. No other details are made available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
