The Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal accident on Interstate 49 south of Natchitoches.
According to the LSP, 26-year-old Nicholas A. Bernard was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 north on I-49. For reasons unknown, the Ram veered off the roadway and entered the median. It then struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting Bernard.
Bernard was not restrained during the crash. He suffered fatal injuries from the crash and died on the scene.
His passenger was taken to the local hospital for moderate injuries. LSP said the passenger was restrained during the crash.
An investigation into the crash is under review.
