On Tuesday morning, one person died and another suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle pile-up near Caledonia.
The fatal incident took place just after 7 a.m. on 100th Street SE, close to the intersection of East Paris Avenue SE in Gaines Township in which four vehicles were involved. The early reports indicated that a driver failed to yield for traffic that had slowed down on eastbound 100th Street and led to a four-vehicle rear-end crash.
On arrival, emergency crews airlifted the at-fault driver to the hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the first vehicle that was struck was declared deceased at the scene by the officials. No other injuries were reported as a result of the wreck.
Officials shut down 100th Street between Patterson and East Paris Avenues as crews worked at the scene. Authorities asked the drivers to avoid the area and use an alternative route. The identities of the victims have not been released.
The crash remains under investigation.
