On early Wednesday, one person died and four others suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle pile-up that led to the closure of the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Stanfield.
As per the initial information, the fatal incident took place at about 3:10 a.m. in westbound I-8, close to milepost 155 at the State Route 84 interchange. The preliminary investigation revealed that one person was ejected and one passenger was killed from one of the overturned vehicles that were found on the roadway.
On arrival, medics transported four victims to a hospital in Phoenix with unknown injuries. The westbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for some time in the morning and were expected to reopen before noon. The number of vehicles involved in the wreck remains unknown at this time.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
