President Donald Trump’s order ends the de minimis loophole, which allowed imports under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free and with little to no customs scrutiny, according to a White House fact sheet. In 2022, over 80% of all U.S. imports qualified for this exemption. Last year alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processed more than 1.3 billion de minimis packages, nearly four million every day, government statistics show.
