Authorities identified 65-year-old Karen M Bollich, of Eunice, as the woman who lost her life and Monique Carrier, of Crowley, as the woman who suffered critical injuries following a two-vehicle accident on Saturday in Acadia Parish.
The fatal car crash took place on LA Highway 13 near Walter Robinson Lane just before 4:30 p.m. According to the investigations reports, Monique Carrier was going south on LA 13 in a 2003 Kia Rio when her vehicle went over the centerline into the northbound travel lane.
On the other hand, a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Karen M Bollich, was going north on LA 13. Carrier overcorrected in order to steer back into the southbound lane as a result of which her car turned sideways into the path of Bollich.
Just then, the front of Bollich’s car crashed into the driver’s door on Carrier’s car. Karen M Bollich suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Bollich was reportedly buckled up at the time of the collision.
Carrier was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries. It is unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt at that time. Toxicology results have been submitted for both drivers to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. No other details are available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
