Authorities identified 5-year-old Isabella Soto who died after a crash on I-196 (Ottawa County, MI)

Officials identified 5-year-old Isabella Soto, a student at Roosevelt Elementary School, as the child who lost her life following a three-vehicle accident Friday on I-196.

The fatal car crash took place at about 6:45 p.m. on eastbound I-196 close to Zeeland. The traffic was merged into a single lane for an upcoming construction zone due to the accident.  The investigation of the crash showed that a 45-year-old Holland man was traveling in the left lane, faster than surrounding traffic when he applied brakes and his car went into the right lane.

Just then, his 2016 Audi Q5 rear-ended a Ford F-150 pickup truck, sending the pickup into a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The girl was in the Audi with her father, officials mentioned. On arrival, medics transported the father to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the F-150 also incurred minor injuries. The identities of the victims remain undisclosed.

The investigation continues.
