On Sunday, a DUI hit-and-run accident led to injuries on Del Monte Boulevard while police arrested 18-year-old Marcelo Munoz Sixto of Salinas, and his passenger, 21-year-old Fidencio Lopez-Daniel of Santa Rita.
The incident happened minutes after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of El Camino Estero. Officers quickly responded to crash the scene on reports of a three-vehicle wreck with injuries wherein Sixto was named as the driver who caused the accident.
As per reports, Sixto and his passenger left the scene before the authorities reached the scene. The police discovered them located near Cortes Street and Pearl Street in Monterey where they were taken into custody. The authorities transported them to the hospital and obtained medical clearance to be booked. Reports revealed that Sixto was driving his vehicle at three times the blood alcohol limit permitted in California.
The authorities recommended Sixto be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08%, hit and run causing injury, driving on a suspended license and on an outstanding warrant from San Luis Obispo County.
They also took Lopez-Daniel in custody for public intoxication. Officers booked Sixto into the Monterey County Jail with a bail set at $35,000, while Lopez-Daniel was booked and released with a citation.
An investigation is continuing.
